The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show: Featuring Matt Lanigan Founder of Lucky Penny and Managing Director of Matt Lanigan Real Estate.
Welcome to The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show. Each week, I get to interview amazing people, who will share their inspiring stories of resilience. I dive deep into wonderful DNM’s with my very special guests, exploring their stories of how they have overcome adversity in their lives, professionally and personally.
Get ready to be inspired by their stories, golden nuggets, and actionable tools that can help us all to elevate our mindset, and be bigger than our setbacks. Within every adversity is an equal or greater opportunity. My intention for these sessions is to remind us that no matter what we are going through, we can overcome it, and discover what we are made of.
It is important to feel motivated and hopeful about the future. When we are positive we can be more creative, and innovative. Seeing our obstacles as opportunities, rising above the turbulence we can feel more ready to rebuild our mind, body, and lives after what has been a massive adjustment to 2020.
In our interview, Matt opens up about the hurdles he had to face pivoting while in lockdown. In his 20’s Matt was hosting parties on a $100million Super-Yacht for a billionaire in the Greek Islands. He decided that he had achieved what he could in this space and wanted a new challenge, something that would fulfil his passion to create and succeed. It was Property that stood out amongst the rest. This year, facing change and adversity, Matt used the skills he learned to adjust and foresee what was coming well in advance. Matt explains how the changes we face in life, are making us stronger. With a positive mindset, supportive people around us and a drive to keep moving forward, Matt reminded me that we can truly achieve anything if we can give ourselves a good environment to succeed. The new path that a change can bring may actually lead us to a better place that we ever could have imagined.
Matt Lanigan’s love of property, branding, advertising, marketing, sales, business and entrepreneurship was born at a young age. Inspired by loving and hard-working parents, who instilled in him to always follow his passion. And passionate he certainly was with sport, theatre studies, hospitality, creating new business ideas whilst still at school. Balancing many things at once gave him the necessary traits needed for the entrepreneurial life. Matt’s earliest memory of property was when he was a young child and his parents would take him and his little sister on Sunday drive’s out to ‘the countryside’ . As Matt grew older and reflected on these Sunday outings, he began to realise that the trips, in fact, had a hidden agenda of his father - that being, he was looking for land opportunities to develop.
At age 21, and after some work experience in his father's company, whilst completing a marketing degree, Matt decided to start his 1st business, an events company. Selling out 28 events in the first 2 yrs it was clear that Matt had found his niche and was off to a flying start. Over the next 13 years, Matt used his skills in branding, marketing and sales to successfully create and exit 9 businesses in the entertainment, hospitality and technology space.
Whilst Matt was hosting a party on a $100million Super-Yacht for a billionaire in the Greek Islands, he decided that he had achieved what he could in this space and wanted a new challenge. Something that would fulfil his passion to create and succeed. It was Property that stood out amongst the rest. So back to study - completing his corporate license in Real Estate, with plans to finish the RMIT Property Dev, Man and Construction degree.
Matt currently holds a corporate real estate license in Victoria and NSW and is working with landowners, developers, funds and investors to maximise the value of land and sell out projects.
Passionate about the community, always giving back to charities like Foodbank Victoria and Matt is also a brand Ambassador for Polished Man. To date and in collaboration with Foodbank Victoria he has fed 8010 of the most vulnerable in Victoria during covid 19, and 810 people in July.
Pls support Matt’s incredible business https://luckypenny.store/ his cafe has been converted to a grocery store to help the Chapel Street community connected and fed. The sales contribute to Foodbank Victoria, Victoria’s oldest and largest food relief organisation. Every dollar donated is two meals created, going to those most vulnerable.
