The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show: Featuring Pia Kirkwood, Parliamentary Advisor and Disability Advocate.

Welcome to The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show. Each week, I get to interview amazing people, who will share their inspiring stories of resilience. I dive deep into wonderful DNM’s with my very special guests, exploring their stories of how they have overcome adversity in their lives, professionally and personally.

Get ready to be inspired by their stories, golden nuggets, and actionable tools that can help us all to elevate our mindset, and be bigger than our setbacks. Within every adversity is an equal or greater opportunity. My intention for these sessions is to remind us that no matter what we are going through, we can overcome it, and discover what we are made of.

It is important to feel motivated and hopeful about the future. When we are positive we can be more creative, and innovative. Seeing our obstacles as opportunities, rising above the turbulence we can feel more ready to rebuild our mind, body, and lives after what has been a massive adjustment to 2020.

From a young age, Pia has had a keen interest in the Victorian Parliamentary process, in particular how the legislation came to be developed, the workings of government to parliament, and Question Time. Pia has since achieved the role of parliamentary adviser. From lived experience, Pia has a passion and a drive to advocate for people with disabilities, chronic health conditions, ranging from flexible working arrangements to discussions on how we can improve the workplace to support our staff and what that looks like.

I loved chatting to Pia, coming from the perspective of someone who lives and breathes resilience. Pia shows up and puts herself out there, despite her challenges living with an illness and a disability. Pia believes that resilience is to recover quickly from difficulties when we are able to pull through difficult times and come out of them stronger and wiser with reflection.  Join us for a gorgeous conversation, about the hurdles that come with a fast-paced career, and making sure that self-care and communication is the key to staying productive and healthy. Having gone through times of feeling misunderstood and burned out, Pia has come out the other side wiser and even more compassionate than she was before - if that was at all possible!? She is amazing and the best part is, Pia has found a way to use her superpowers to help others. After what she has been through, she is now better equipped to help others at work that are also faced with feeling understood and worthy. Her secret is communication, self-belief, and seeking joy, amidst the struggle. Pia is a true example that no matter what you are going through professionally or personally, you can overcome it and discover a happier and healthier life as a result.
