The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show: Featuring Terri Vinson, founder of Synergie Skin.
Welcome to The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show. Each week, I get to interview amazing people, who will share their inspiring stories of resilience. I dive deep into wonderful DNM’s with my very special guests, exploring their stories of how they have overcome adversity in their lives, professionally and personally.
Get ready to be inspired by their stories, golden nuggets, and actionable tools that can help us all to elevate our mindset, and be bigger than our setbacks. Within every adversity is an equal or greater opportunity. My intention for these sessions is to remind us that no matter what we are going through, we can overcome it, and discover what we are made of.
It is important to feel motivated and hopeful about the future. When we are positive we can be more creative, and innovative. Seeing our obstacles as opportunities, rising above the turbulence we can feel more ready to rebuild our mind, body, and lives after what has been a massive adjustment to 2020.
Introducing Terri Vinson
Terri Vinson is an Australian skin scientist, cosmetic chemist, entrepreneur, keynote speaker and author.
Terri Vinson is dedicated to helping people feel empowered, informed and confident when it comes to their skincare choices through multilevel education and by creating her cosmeceutical skincare range, Synergie Skin.
As the founder and formulator of Australian based global skincare company, Synergie Skin, she formulates her own line of active cosmeceuticals and intelligent mineral makeup all in accordance to her trademarked ‘Clean Science’ philosophy.
Having built the vertically integrated business from the ground up, she has worked tirelessly to create safe and ethical products aimed to protect, change, and nurture the skin for long-term results, optimal dermal health and to unleash confidence from within.
Terri Vinson holds a Bachelor of Science (Immunology & Microbiology), a post-graduate Diploma of Formulating Chemistry, a Diploma of Education (Biology & Senior Science) and is a member of the ASCC (Australian Society of Cosmetic Chemists). She is a world-recognised formulator, lecturer in the field of cosmetic science, and author of ‘Skinformation: A Clean Science Guide to Beautiful Skin’.
Terri is so impressive, she is such a leader in her space and I loved talking to her about how she has handled the challenges of 2020. Terri believes that resilience is to have grit and tenacity. To find that pure determination within you and to never give up.
Terri is a master at realistic optimism and she explains how this helps her to make the best of situations, and she suggests just lean into change and difficulty. “Thoughts get us into a state, but remember we can control our thoughts if we are more aware” says Terri. Terri has a morning routine of running and having a good breakfast a self-care routine that helps her to start on her best foot.
At the age of 12, Terri shares her story of how she felt like a misfit, she didn’t feel close to her mother as a child and she found out that she was adopted. Trying to belong, feelings of disconnect was something Terri had to overcome so that she could feel enough. She explains that she had to stop look externally for validation and this experience forced her to grow up quickly. Overcoming this in her life taught Terri how to become solution focused, a skill that has clearly led to her success in her business.
When Melbourne went into lockdown from the Covid-19 pandemic, Terri knew that her business like many others would need to be innovative to survive.
She made hand sanitisers in her lab, helping Australians to stay safe, keeping her work family afloat as we shut down as a city. Terri has built a wonderful community around her and sells her amazing skincare range globally. She started the business in her 40’s when she had to take the reins to provide for her family after she had her kids, and has never looked back. So inspiring.
Terri learned that she had to shift her mindset and not make what happened her ‘story’. To let go of blame, to take responsibility for her own life, mind and happiness, despite what she went through. This helped her to find compassion for her family, and what they also went through, what a beautiful revelation.
Terri has just recently authored a beauty bible Skinformation, lifting the lid on skincare - you can buy it on her website.
