The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show: Featuring Nina Hargrave, horticulturist, landscape architect, meditation teacher, and founder of Serene Body Health.

Welcome to The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show. Each week, I get to interview amazing people, who will share their inspiring stories of resilience. I dive deep into wonderful DNM’s with my very special guests, exploring their stories of how they have overcome adversity in their lives, professionally and personally.

Get ready to be inspired by their stories, golden nuggets, and actionable tools that can help us all to elevate our mindset, and be bigger than our setbacks. Within every adversity is an equal or greater opportunity. My intention for these sessions is to remind us that no matter what we are going through, we can overcome it, and discover what we are made of.

It is important to feel motivated and hopeful about the future. When we are positive we can be more creative, and innovative. Seeing our obstacles as opportunities, rising above the turbulence we can feel more ready to rebuild our mind, body, and lives after what has been a massive adjustment to 2020.

Nina is a mum of two boys, a horticulturist, landscape architect, meditation teacher, and founder of Serene Body Health.

Serene Body Health is a beauty, wellness, and lifestyle brand. They are on a mission to encourage daily practices and rituals of self-care, balanced with modern life through the power of scent with their powerful essential oil perfumes.

They create products that are healthy, natural, ethical, and sustainable while feeling luxurious and special on the body and awakening the olfactory system.

Nina’s passion is to explore the beauty of balancing aromas, creating inspiring scents, that have the power to shift moods and support emotional wellbeing.

Nina believes that resilience is about being present. To catch yourself when you are in your head, stuck in thoughts about the past or future, in worry or sadness. How does she do this? Nina brings herself back into the present moment by focusing on her feet, while walking, or even just standing she imagines that she anchors into the ground. This helps her to get out of her head coming back into the present moment.

“When we are present we are more able to feel gratitude and with this mindset, we are better able to notice more of what makes us feel grateful around us. This makes us less reactive, shifts our perception making us feel more in control and safe” says Nina.

Nina’s mother was very ill with Leukemia for a long 12 years when Nina was in her 20’s. Her sister suffers from bipolar disorder and it was a tough time when Nina’s Mum passed away at the same time Nina had her first son. A year later Nina’s sister also passed away and as you can imagine, it just blew her circuits.

Nina’s lowest point was this very time when she felt so in survival, she also felt her resilience kick in. More than she ever had to before, she managed to remain present, and that is what kept her going during the hardest time of her life. She was understandably living in shock for a while, she cried a lot. Nina sought grief counseling as she knew she had to start dealing with these difficult emotions that can make us feel overwhelmed.

Nina’s interview reminded me that when crap hits the fan, we are truly guided and we intuitively know what we need and if we sit still enough to listen and are brave enough to sit in the uncomfortable, we will find our way. This interview inspired me so much and I can’t wait to share it.
