The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show: Featuring Louise Carrigg Director of Barry Plant Heathmont & Ringwood.
Welcome to The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show. Each week, I get to interview amazing people, who will share their inspiring stories of resilience. I dive deep into wonderful DNM’s with my very special guests, exploring their stories of how they have overcome adversity in their lives, professionally and personally.
Get ready to be inspired by their stories, golden nuggets, and actionable tools that can help us all to elevate our mindset, and be bigger than our setbacks. Within every adversity is an equal or greater opportunity. My intention for these sessions is to remind us that no matter what we are going through, we can overcome it, and discover what we are made of.
It is important to feel motivated and hopeful about the future. When we are positive we can be more creative, and innovative. Seeing our obstacles as opportunities, rising above the turbulence we can feel more ready to rebuild our mind, body, and lives after what has been a massive adjustment to 2020.
Introducing Louise Carrigg
As the Director of Barry Plant Heathmont & Ringwood, Louise's vision is to deliver the ultimate in customer service, with a trustworthy and friendly approach, Louise leaving both vendors and buyers surprised that their real estate experience can be positive and happy.
In July of 2014 Louise and her husband Chris bought the Barry Plant Heathmont business and enjoyed taking the business to a new level and was awarded in 2015 at the Barry Plant Awards for Excellence for 'The office with the largest increase in Sales'. In December 2016 they took over the Ringwood office of Barry Plant and have made great progress in building a new team of professionals and gaining a strong market share position.
Louise’s interview was so down to earth and I learned so much from her. She believes that resilience is about growth and self awareness. Louise’s sister is living with a severe disability and it is Louise’s role to manage her life and affairs. At times this can be a juggle, but it has taught Louise to tackle life with a fresh mindset. Juggling two businesses and her family life with her beautiful husband and kids, is fast paced in the Carrig household. Louise has also lived with anxiety that has impacted her life on and off throughout the years. The Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 was an opportunity for Louise to slow down the pace. She finally felt like she had permission to do so and it has been a blessing for her.
Louise has removed ‘busy’ from her vocabulary and has realised that one way she used to cope was by adding more tasks into her day to distract herself. Her mind and body kept giving her signs via anxiety and burn out symptoms. In the past she just kept organising, pushing and doing more to deal with it but it never made her symptoms improve.
Until Louise had the time to integrate self care routines into her daily life. She now has regular baths, will take the time to go outside for a picnic lunch and she feels an enormous difference in how she thinks and feels at home and at work.
At her lowest point, Louise felt frightened and lonely. But with self awareness, acceptance, journaling and meditation she has turned that all around. Her turning point was when she fully accepted her circumstances and when she surrendered. When she literally could not do anything more in her day she knew she had to make a choice and find a better way.
