The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show: Featuring Phil Hadfield founder of A Chronic Comeback Podcast.

Welcome to The Bend Like Bamboo Resilience Show. Each week, I get to interview amazing people, who will share their inspiring stories of resilience. I dive deep into wonderful DNM’s with my very special guests, exploring their stories of how they have overcome adversity in their lives, professionally and personally.

Get ready to be inspired by their stories, golden nuggets, and actionable tools that can help us all to elevate our mindset, and be bigger than our setbacks. Within every adversity is an equal or greater opportunity. My intention for these sessions is to remind us that no matter what we are going through, we can overcome it, and discover what we are made of.

It is important to feel motivated and hopeful about the future. When we are positive we can be more creative, and innovative. Seeing our obstacles as opportunities, rising above the turbulence we can feel more ready to rebuild our mind, body, and lives after what has been a massive adjustment to 2020.

Introducing Phil Hadfield

For the last 10 years, Phil has been navigating the complex journey of chronic health and all of the mental challenges that come with it.

Despite not having recovered, he believes he is closer than he's ever been and although Phil still faces extreme physical symptoms on a daily basis, he is mentally, much stronger, and resilient as a result of what he has had to go through. Furthermore, the people he has met and the experiences he has had have meant that Phil is now in a position to be more grateful, knowing he a better person for it.

This mental toughness and resilience have left him better equipped to leave his day job and launch his own online business, both things he wouldn't have done if he never developed chronic health issues. Check out this inspiring interview, where Phil shares what has been key to his positive mindset and why he ensures that he surrounds himself with positive people, seeking out stories of people in similar situations who have recovered or massively improved their lives. Phil came to the realisation this year that if people could also expose themselves to these stories and they could be given some hope, then they too could change their mindset, and this is when the idea for The Chronic Comeback Podcast was born.

Phil’s intention for the podcast is to focus on the positives and steering away from the negatives of chronic illness. Comebacks are totally possible in any situation and in fact, your life can be better as a result of your setback and this podcast is all about interviewing those who have proven that.

Phil believes that resilience is all about the ability to find gratitude and reason at the darkest of times. To keep going, to rise and have a comeback, to do that one must find the lesson.

At age 22 Phil was living a good life, he traveled a lot and was having fun. He was bitten by a tick on his trip to Australia and since then has been battling with debilitating neurological and joint pain symptoms. Since then he has explored many healers and solutions and has had felt misunderstood living with invisible symptoms. He has never given up and decided to take control of his health journey. This has led to trips to India to detox, to water fasts, to Germany to stem cell therapy, and a decision to leave his corporate job. Phil now lives his life with greater meaning and feels more connected to his purpose. He reads more, listens to podcasts, and believes this journey has been his own self-discovery of personal development. Phil now knows how to feel good not just look good and he the importance of both only after going through the difficult times he has had to face.

Phil’s tips:

  • Don’t take life too seriously, believe in a magical universal force that is always looking out for you, if you dare to listen

  • Life has many sliding door moments and what you are going through in your life allows you to let go of what is not serving you anymore like a job you may leave, or people that are not aligned with your growth anymore.

  • Life is full of cycles big and mini ones. There are bottoms and peaks they are always moving, so this soon shall pass.
