A happy mind is the ability to change our minds about what can be possible in our minds, bodies, and lives.

A Happy Mind

This month we focus on nourishing a happy mind. Our minds need to be exercised and are often forgotten.

Flexibility in our mindset impacts everything that matters, our body’s ability to repair, how happy and resilient we are, and how connected we feel.

When we are stressed, tired, and disengaged, we lack motivation, creativity and we feel unwell.

Studies show that the more connected we are within our relationships, and with our peers at work, the better we will perform and the happier we will become.

Capturing an elevated mindset from the start of the day, can lead to better workplace environments, improves communication and quality project outcomes.

When we are flexible, we can choose our thoughts, we can ask more questions, and react more consciously.

As a Kinesiologist, resilience trainer, and keynote speaker, it is my passion to work with CEOs, business leaders, and individuals. In virtual or in-person workshops, I help them to master resilience, uncover blind spots and achieve their personal and professional goals.

How do I do this?

I teach people, both individuals, and teams, how to Bend Like Bamboo.

The art of Bending Like Bamboo

When we Bend Like Bamboo, we encompass resilience and flexibility in our mind, body, and life. I believe that flexibility builds strength, and a flexible mindset builds resilience.

When we are stressed, we tend to over analyse the future, and get stuck in the past, living on autopilot. We feel disengaged, unhappy and we disconnect. We get bogged down into lower denser emotions of shame, guilt, anger, and sadness.

With a flexible mindset, we can access more elevated emotions such as joy, forgiveness, and compassion.

When we are flexible, we are more able to adapt and see our situations with fresh eyes, a higher perspective, we can think in new and innovative directions. We can let go of the past and old stories that no longer serve us anymore.

As a bamboo tree is strong, flexible, and anchored when the wind comes in life we are prepared and are no longer able to be devastated. As resilience builds up, we can lean into uncertainty with confidence, getting out of our comfort zone, where we will grow. This is the best environment to maximise repair, and also to reach our fullest potential.

The key is how we start our day and also knowing how to stay focused and present throughout the day. Learning how to master our mindset to be more flexible, we can live with passion and purpose, with an open heart, rather than remaining stuck in our heads catastrophising.

A Happy Mind with meditation

Taking the time to be with ourselves, creates space in our daily life for quiet time, it is a time to stop.

Every day you wash your body, how do you wash your mind, of old stories and beliefs, and the chit-chatter that you know is not helping you?

Meditation applied as a daily ritual, can be a pathway to creating deeper connections within ourselves and within our relationships. It builds strength and resilience in our minds, in our bodies, and energy systems. Our minds need to be exercised to be wired for the positive, a mindset that we need when life brings bigger changes such as divorce, death, or the start or the end of a career change.

A morning and evening ritual of meditation can help is to set up our day. With an elevated state, we can see our obstacles as opportunities, we can see the lessons in our struggles, and we can choose to rise above with a higher perspective.

Many studies have investigated meditation for different conditions, and there’s evidence that it may reduce blood pressure. As well as symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and flare-ups in people who have had ulcerative colitis.  Meditation may also ease symptoms of anxiety and depression and may help people with insomnia.

I believe that our mindset and the state we set up for ourselves are pivotal over any other health regime. That is because our minds are in charge of our brain, nervous system, and physical bodies. The state we create at the start of the day impacts how we think, how we feel, our ability to choose our thoughts, our inner dialogue, how we express ourselves, and our ability to navigate change.

It affects our digestion, the biochemistry we will fire from our brain that sends repair or stress signals out to our bodies. These two signals determine how happy and healthy we will be, and how effectively we will heal and repair.

Our mindset impacts how we show up in the world, and how we perceive stress in our environment. It will determine our capacity to forgive and move forward, our ability to walk away from circumstances that are no longer serving us, how we react, and the choices we make.

All of this collectively creates our reality and what kind of life we will live.

When we can give ourselves the best environment to be flexible and open to change, we can evolve through the more turbulent times with grace, seeing our challenges from a more elevated perspective. In my life, I have learned that this is the most empowering thing we can do for ourselves.
