For the month of April we have discussed kindness and it’s benefits to our health emotionally, biochemically and as a community.
Pay It Forward Day is a global initiative founded by Blake Beattie, that exists to make a difference by creating a huge ripple of kindness felt across the world. The hope is that people pay kindness forward every day and make each day that little bit brighter. Pay it forward day believe that small acts, when multiplied by millions of people can literally change the world for the better.
For this year’s international Pay it Forward Day (PIFD) on 28th April they are aiming to inspire over 10 million acts of kindness around the world. Imagine the difference that would make!
Bend Like Bamboo is proud to promote this amazing day and will get involved paying it forward, to help spread the word.

What is it?
Pay It Forward Day occurs on the 28th April each year. Many of you may have seen the movie ‘Pay It Forward’ (starring Helen Hunt and Kevin Spacey), a story about a young boy who did 3 good deeds for others in need. In return, all that the child wanted was that they pass on the good deed to three other people and keep the cycle going.
One good deed might not seem like much, but if everyone did something good for someone else, then the cycle of generosity and kindness can spark us to become better people. We can and should pay kindness forward every day. International Pay it Forward Day is a powerful, positive reminder of the power of giving.
How it Works?
Do between one and three good deeds for others without asking for anything in return. Instead the recipient should be instructed to pay it forward to someone else in need (hand them a Pay it Forward Card). The Pay it Forward part can be completed at each person’s discretion and anytime after ‘Pay It Forward Day’. There are 24 boxes on the back of the card that can be ticked as the card circulates.
I encourage my clients to integrate acts of kindness into their daily life as a tool to assist with the flow of gratitude, as what you dish out comes back to your tenfold. It works so well as kindness also reconnects you to yourself and with those around you. This is how to change your brain, in my experience this mindset shift created more repair in my body. It is a lovely thing to do and can be so much fun ! Imagine the world we would live in with we all were kinder to each other.
Many people's lives have been made that bit brighter by the Pay it Forward Movement. One lady had her $10,000 liver operation paid for by a complete stranger, and another family were flown from Perth to Sydney to visit their sick child in hospital. So far more than 40 states and cities have proclaimed the day with over 250,000 random acts of kindness happening in over 65 countries.
The greatest thing about Pay it Forward is that all people from any background, age, culture or country can participate in any way they like. It might be as small as topping up someone's parking meter that has expired so they don't get a ticket.
